Our Circle
I heard someone say the other day that "if you are the smartest person in your group, your group is too small". That comment got me thinking about the tremendous influence friends and associates have in our lives. More specifically I would like to call attention to those that inspire. It is so important to find people who are more successful than you and who have been where you are trying to go. We have all heard about the benefits of mentors. There's this pragmatic side of mentorship that's always talked about. You can learn from their mistakes, they can open different doors for you etc. I want to highlight another side of mentorship for a moment, and that is inspiration. When you hang out with people who are more successful then you, it broadens your vision, it creates an internal pressure to grow and reach for those things you know in your heart you can accomplish. They help you see the potential within yourself.
Where are these people? How do we meet them? I bet if given some thought you could get creative and come up with some excellent ideas. One good place to start is by joining groups like our Cashflow Club. Find groups of people with similar interests. Since most of us are interested in investing I would suggest joining the local REIA like the one in Killeen or Temple. Austin has several Real Estate Investment groups. [Texas REIAS] Go network; connect with someone. Do something outside of your comfort zone, stretch. Attending a get together is a huge step in the right direction, and a bigger step would be to...hold on..TALK to people. I enjoy going to events and checking things out, but when it comes to introducing myself or striking up a conversation...I pretty much suck, lol. I'm getting better though. So if anyone out there is really good at breaking the ice and starting conversations, give me a call! I need you in my circle :-) Seriously, if your not into networking events then find a mentor in the books you read or audios you listen to. Look what reading "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" did for all of us. Seek it out and you will find it. Whilst people may derive much benefit from experiential education, keep in mind mentors also fuel passion, and to me that trumps everything else.
Our network, our circle makes a difference. Find those that inspire you to shine.
